Description
This auction is for a brand new, absolute MINT condition copy of: "The History of Cypress Point Club". This book was published by the Cypress Point Club in 1996 and was meant for the enjoyment of the membership. It was produced in a limited edition (I was told less than 1,000 but can't say for sure) and they are extremely rare! This book is in perfect condition. A while back I was fortunate enough to get two brand new copies. One is in my collection and this is the other. This book has been in a protected case from day one and is flawless. The book starts off with a nice history of how the club was founded and where it is today. The following is a paragraph from the preface of the book written by the President of the Cypress Point Club at the time. John Love: "In the early 1990's it was recognized that the ranks of those who were at all familiar with the beginnings of the Cypress Point Club were rapidly diminishing and the memories of the remaining few were becoming hazier by the year. The Board of Directors of the Club came to the logical conclusion that if a history of the Club were to be written, the time to do so was now". The great amateur golfer Marion Hollins found this special piece of land and wanted to build a golf course unlike any other. After the land was acquired, Seth Raynor was brought in to design the 18 holes, but he suddenly passed away before the design was complete. Alister Mackenzie was eventually brought in and he is credited with the 18 hole design of Cypress Point. There is a lot of great insider stories of how the entire deal was put together for when the land was purchased, who the founders wanted to design the course, the clubhouse, etc. The book also has a large section that details all of the spectacular golf holes at Cypress Point back when the course first opened and how they looked when the book was published in 1996. All the holes are broken down and there is a picture of how a specific golf hole looked back in the 1920's and how the hole looks today. It's great too see how some of these golf holes have evolved and changed over the years and how others look like they haven't changed a bit in 70 years. Beautiful black & white and color photographs throughout of the gorgeous golf holes at Cypress Point. What is great about the book is that the reader gets to see all the holes at Cypress Point. Not just the famous par 3's on the ocean, but all of the inland holes and the other golf holes that play throughout the sand dunes. The back of the book has some information on the construction of the golf course and it's costs and a dedication to the members. Everyone who loves golf knows how special of a place Cypress Point is. This book gives you an insider view to one of the most prestigious golf clubs in all the world. This book was published for the members of the Cypress Point Club and was never made available to the public, making it extremely rare. If you are a collector of rare golf books, here is your chance to grab one of the most sought after books in all of golf. Buyer to pay $10 for shipping and it will be carefully packaged and sent. International shipping will be more. No Paypal for this transaction. Only check or money order. Please E-mail me with any questions. Thanks and good luck!
