Description
SURFING HISTORY ...an original roadsign (sixties - 1980) from the Rincon Point Road colony, Carpentaria, Santa Barbara County California, USA. And the story of its theft... If you SURF you know what it is. Delivered by hand to its home in CaliforniaOn Jul-21-08 at 13:43:35 PDT, seller added the following information:OK! Here's the story. My surfin buddy Mike and I lived on different sides of the river (the Santa Ana river). Mikey lived in Newport Beach and I lived in Huntington, Mikey moved to Carpenteria and invited me up to surf. So I wake up in the mornin, I go to put my surfboards on the car, and someone had stolen the roofracks off m 1966 Chevy Caprice. I wasn't happy. I wasn't happy at all. OK, so Mike decides we're goin to surf Indicators. We get to the big sliding chain link fence gate, just like in the movies ya know man, and on the other side of it there she is, THE RINCON POINT ROADSIGN, lookin out like from the back of a prison. So I said, 'Mikey, I'm gonna have that sign', that's what I told him man. Mikey said 'Ya can't take it now, there's too many damn people around'. He said, 'I'll bring it to ya in two weeks'. sure enuf two weeks later he shows up, with the sign riding in the passenger seat of his convertible car, still on the post, and the concrete footing it was still fixed in. And then he told me how he'd got it and how he’d gotten so drunk....
